Meal Pattern Minute: Tortilla Chips

December 1, 2023

In the Child and Adult Care Food Program, CACFP providers are required to serve at least one whole-grain rich grain component when a grain is served each day. This rule is in effect when feeding children ages one and up and adults. There are many products that fit the whole grain-rich component like whole wheat bread and whole wheat pasta, but sometimes it’s not as easy to determine if a product is whole grain-rich. For example, we know that tortilla chips are made from corn but are they considered to be whole grain-rich? How would a CACFP provider determine this?

Tune in to this Meal Pattern Minute as Isabel Ramos-Lebron, MS, RDN, LD, divulges the answer to this question and directs you to resources to help you further.
