Celebrate National Seafood Month
Seafood Nutrition Partnership
October is National Seafood Month and it’s a great time to consider how you can incorporate seafood into your CACFP menus. “When kids eat at least two servings of seafood each week, the benefits are big. Fish and shellfish supply the nutrients, vitamins and omega-3s essential for strong bones, brain development, and healthy immune and cardiovascular systems. Kids who eat fish at least once per week may do better in school. Seafood’s omega-3s help kids’ brains develop, leading to higher IQs and improved reading and spelling skills. Plus, children who consume more seafood have less anxiety and better focus.” - Seafood Nutrition Partnership
Our friends at Seafood Nutrition Partnership have curated a number of resources to help children in your care become “Seafoodies”. To get your kids involved in learning about the benefits of seafood download this Kids Activity Book. Make this celebration visible posting this poster in your classroom.
It’s time to start planning. Consider fish tacos, protein bowls or simply a yummy tuna fish sandwich.
